What is a telematics box?
The box is a similar size to a mobile phone and is fitted neatly away in your car. It counts the miles you drive and feeds your driving information back to your insurer. Your insurer will tell you what they’re looking for to help you get a lower premium or any other bonus they can offer. In some instances it can really help if you’re in an accident, black box technology has even saved lives!
How long does it take to fit the box?
It depends very much on your vehicle, we would estimate that 30 minutes to one hour gives our engineers enough time to get the box installed.
What are the booking teams opening times?
|Monday to Friday:||08.00 – 18.00|
|Saturday:||09.00 – 13.00|
What is the installation process?
We get your information over from your insurance team and we will contact you to make the appointment. On the day of your appointment, the engineer will come out to your agreed address and will start with pre-checks on the vehicle which will need a signature from the owner or person present for the install. The engineer will then proceed with the install after the install is complete the engineer will do a post check on the vehicle, again getting a signature afterwards. Your box is then installed and you’re ready to go.
What hours do we install between?
Our engineers work Monday to Friday between 8am and 5pm. We also have limited availability on weekends between 8am-5pm, although a weekend appointment cannot be guaranteed.
Can I request a time frame?
We are unable to tell you an exact time for your installation due to the nature of our engineers’ busy schedules on the road. We will always send you a text message a day or two before your appointment to confirm your expected timeslot. This could be one of:
- Morning (8am-12pm)
- Afternoon (12pm-5pm)
If you have any particular time constraints please let us know at the point of booking and we will do our best to accommodate any preferences. Our Engineers will always try and contact you on your given mobile number when they’re on their way too.
Do I have to be there for the install?
You don’t have to be there, but we do require a responsible adult to provide us with the keys and any documentation needed for the install (we will let you know what’s needed at the time of the booking). The person present will also need to sign our pre and post checks that we complete on the vehicle.
How do I arrange a booking?

How long does the box have to stay in the car?
The box has to stay in your vehicle for the full period of your insurance policy.
Can I get the box removed?
In most cases the box is simply deactivated and becomes obsolete, so we don’t have to remove anything. If you would like your box removing then please speak with your policy team, who will then let us know to make an appointment with you to remove the box.
Can you tell if I’m speeding?
No, RS Connect do not have access to any of your telematics data. Once we have installed and activated your box we are not able to see any of your speed or journey data. If you have any questions about your data please speak to your policy team.
Can you install Dash Cams?
